Physical books aren’t going anywhere soon and there’s only so much space on a bookshelf so every now and then you’ll want to clear out your shelf. If your books are still in readable condition there are a few great ways you can clear them from your shelf and give someone else the joy of a new-to-them book.

Donating your books to charity is a great way to help to raise money for charities and hopefully ensure that your book is enjoyed again. Free little libraries are also great to off load a few of your well-loved reads. Alternatively we do buy used books if in quantities more than ten, all you need to do is email us with a picture of your books to hello@burymeinbooks.co.uk.

If your book has pages missing or damage that would make it unreadable don’t be tempted to throw it in your general waste, there are a few ways it may be possible to recycle your books. Because of the glue in books they’re more complicated to recycle than newspapers or magazines.

Recycle Now has a postcode checker where you can see if it is possible to recycle books in your general paper recycling. If it isn’t possible to recycle your books this way you can also search for nearby places that do accept books for recycling. If your books are hardback you may need to separate the covers to recycle the paper but your local drop off location should have more details on how they can accept waste books.
